Under The Olive Tree

No doubt you have heard this before.

The two US Senators were on the road, and it was time for bed. It was a bit awkward, but they finally came around to agreeing to pray for the night.

The first Senator suggested that they pray “The Lord’s Prayer” - whereupon the second Senator looked at him in disbelief. “I bet you don’t even know the Lord’s prayer.”, he challenged.

“I bet you $20 I do!”, said the first.

“You’re on!”

The first Senator bowed his head and closed his eyes - “Now I lay me down to sleep, I pray the Lord my soul to keep, (short pause) - If I should die before I wake, I pray the Lord my soul to take.”

As they opened their eyes, the second Senator was reaching for his wallet to get the $20 bill. He solemnly handed it to the first Senator saying, “I didn’t think you could do it”.
