The Eyes of your Children

If I would know you
And be taken into your heart
All that I would have to do
To understand if you are true
Is to look in the eyes of your children
The eyes of your children
The eyes of your children
“He shall visit the sins of the parents unto the third and fourth generation.”
It takes a few generations for saints to become thieves – and reprobates. It takes a little time. The generation of the saints does its best to pass on the truth to the next generation. Sometimes it “takes”, and sometimes it doesn’t – and even that first generation after the generation of the saints can produce a few reprobates – but it takes effort.
The next generation is one more step removed from the saints – and there is no telling where they will head to or how they will turn out – there is a much greater percentage of them that fall away – and some embrace darkness.
By the time the fourth generation comes along – you can have descendents of the generation of the saints that are thieves living amongst thieves – or worse.
Redemption and restoration of these individuals takes a miracle of some kind – either a miracle of love – or a miracle of healing – or deliverance – of the answer to a calling – or the confrontation of Evil and a rude awakening – thieves and reprobates do not become children of God through penance – but by the transformation of the soul – and the cleansing of the mind and heart.
The parent’s sins are visited to the third and fourth generation – and with each new reprobate generation – there is hell to pay.
The fellowship of the generation of the saints – like all true fellowships – must be entered individually and with a free will – and the children of the saints are no exception.
The children of the saints must receive and embrace the faith – and become disciples of the teaching – and if they will – then the new generation of the saints is born.
So why does it seem easier to go into perdition then to follow the ways of righteousness. Partly – it is simply the rebellious nature of man – but there is another factor not often considered – and that is that reprobates are more willing to sacrifice their children than are the saints.
There is a paradox here – however.
Unless you are willing to raise your children as disciples – and bring them with you as you speak – and teach and preach the Gospel – if you selfishly keep them hidden away – as precious jewels – and endeavor to shelter them in your safekeeping of them – then they are handicapped at their coming of age – and have more to overcome in their endeavor to follow that which is good.
It is at the point that we surrender to God and pray, “Lord – do whatever it takes to make me the Christian you want me to be” that we begin to understand Christ in fullness – and who, at this point in their relationship with God can withhold their children? Remember Abraham the father of faith – and Isaac.
But that is what the saints do – all too often – they withhold their children from God – and in so doing – lose them to the brambles and the rocks – and to the wolves.
The prophet Isaiah – who was one of the most eloquent writers of all time – penned, “A little child shall lead them” – and although he was speaking of the time of the rule of Christ on Earth – if Christ should rule our lives and our families – then our children should be exemplars of the teaching – and they should not be hidden from public viewing. “Men do not light a candle and put it under a bushel.”
