Before We Go to War

By BBennettJ • Apr 23rd, 2008 • Category: Poems

Before we go to War

Identify your Enemy. And then take some time to think. – or you may very well arrive in a situation you did not bargain for – and for which there is little if any remedy.

Yes – get your brightest
Gather here your best
Waste their substance on misery and
Poverty, the wages [...]

We Are Not Saved

By BBennettJ • Apr 22nd, 2008 • Category: Poems

We Are not Saved

The Harvest is ended, the summer
Is past
And we are not saved

The party is over
The fight has begun
And we are not saved

The Cities come crashing
And tumbling down
The stench lingers
As it descends

Reach out and touch them
Lift them and heal them
And carry them home in your arms
We are not saved
We are [...]

Walks with Grandpa
An Indian Man
by gabriel iowa

Walks with Grandpa
Walks with Mama
Walks with Wind
Walks with Rain
Walks with Sister
Walks with Brother
Walks with Sunshine
Walks with Sorrow
Walks with Love who casts out Evil
Walks with Thunder
Walks with Judgement
Walks with Eternal Salvation
Walks with Knowledge
Walks with Mercy
Walks with Freedom
Walks with Love

All encompass some dominion
All are Indians
All are Brothers

Cold Dark Night

By BBennettJ • Mar 5th, 2008 • Category: Poems

You know that feelin you get
Of being so alone and down
Useless, nameless, no one cares
Your shadow fadin’ on a cold dark night

What’s it for — is this really me?
Or is this just to teach me
Others fears, they really do
Have days and lives that leave them blind
And lost and like
A shadow fadin’ on a cold dark [...]

Carry On

By BBennettJ • Mar 5th, 2008 • Category: Poems

“I’m afraid.”

“Fear thou not, nor be dismayed.”

“There’s no way.”

“Love lights the path of a brighter day.”

“My strength is gone.”

“Carry on, carry on.”

“I’ve no more light.”

“Yea, walk – walk thru the night.

For verily your way is bright,

Unfolding with the dawn’s sunlight.”

“The valley’s deep and wide and long.”

“Begin with shouts and praise and song,

Then carry on, [...]

One More Hour

By BBennettJ • Feb 18th, 2008 • Category: Poems

One More Hour

Help us hold on one more hour!
Came the labored, desperate cry
This night’s battle’s vanquished power
Waiting for the next attack
Still no thought of turning back
In the trenches here we lie.

Help us hold the line this night!
Tattered, drawn to utmost measure
No relief but still we fight
Comrades perished, others lost
Everything we are the cost
Victory our only [...]

Drums

By BBennettJ • Feb 18th, 2008 • Category: Poems

DRUMS

Something’s coming!
The sound of distant drums so faint
A whisper in my ear
That cause my heart to tremble, quake
As soul and body stain to hear

Something’s coming!
But hidden now to sight
Only the sound of distant drums
That pound a warning through the night
And louder as the tumult comes

Something’s coming!
I’ve heard this sound before
It echoes in [...]

Blessed Dawn

By BBennettJ • Dec 25th, 2007 • Category: Poems

If you, Tomorrow, would embrace
With dignity; and
Have your face to shine
With openess and clarity,
And leave
Far behind strife’s frustration
And regret -
Don’t falter yet.
Be patient and you’ll find
With each small step
The mountain of your difficulties
You have climbed,
And though you’ve stumbled
Up the path
Behold, at last the heights
You journeyed far to see
Have now been conquered
And you’re free.
Though pit [...]

I’ve Traveled a Thousand Miles

By BBennettJ • Dec 18th, 2007 • Category: Poems

I’ve traveled a thousand miles today,
Maybe ten thousand miles,
I went all the way from the most mundane,
The most insignificant tasks,
That were urgent, and pressing and weighty
And demanding, and of the utmost consequence
To events that transcend both time and space
And breath and life
And death and resurrection
I went all the way from trying to hang
Sheetrock in a [...]

Under the Olive Tree

By BBennettJ • May 23rd, 2007 • Category: Poems

Under the Olive Tree

Under the olive tree
I sat, I watched, I listened
Through scorching heat of summer
And biting wintry winds
At harvest time the olives fell
Drumming out their plight
Abandoned, they were cast away
Forsaken, no one gathered them
A waste, while ambitious men nearby
Ran to catch the wind.
